Whar are across cultures competencies and key KSAs?

The across cultures competency includes the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to recognize and embrace similarities and differences among nations and cultures and then approach key organizational and strategic issues with an open and curious mind.

The across cultures competency includes the key KSAs to be effective in doing the following:

1. Understanding, appreciating, and using the characteristics that make a particular culture unique and are likely to influence a person’s behaviors.

2. Identifying and understanding how work-related values, such as individualism and collectivism, influence the choices of individuals and groups in making decisions.

3. Understanding and motivating employees with different values and attitudes.

4. Communicating in the language of the country with which the individual has working relationships.

5. Taking assignments in a foreign country or effectively working with those from foreign countries.

6. Addressing managerial and other issues through a global mind-set—viewing the environment from a worldwide perspective, always looking for unexpected trends that may create threats or opportunities for a unit or an entire organization. Some call this the ability to think globally, act locally.
