Career development involves making decisions about an occupation and engaging in activities to attain career goals; it is based on the central concept of time. 
A career plan is the individual's choice of occupation, organization, and career path. Thus, a career may or may not be managed successfully. 
To do so, an individual needs to commit to a lifetime of learning, including the development of a career plan. Such a career plan would be implemented over time through the process of career development.
